WIP Aesthetics Part Two

(Images via Pinterest, I take no credit for them)

Today's WIP is A Season of Subterfuge, Courtiers, and War Councils. This project is actually already written so I'm really just editing. I wrote it back in 2019 and it's been a while since I've talked about it so here's a little recap on what it's about...

Genre: Young adult, portal fantasy.

It's about four extremely unexperienced teenagers learning how to survive in a world they never even knew existed before they ended up trapped in it. It is full of danger, peril, friendship, and unspoken feelings.

SoS is actually the third book in a series. Book one which has forest roads, creepy manors, and hungry werewolves is available here. And book two which is about pirates, sea curses, and kidnappings is available here. (both are available in hardback, paperback, and ebook. Eep). This third book focuses on castles, courts, war, dragons, and destiny.

I actually already have the cover for SoS, which in itself is very aesthetic.

(whole series vibes)

(Just the SoS cover by its lonesome but still looking pretty dang sexy)

Elevator Pitch:
In a desperate bid to return home, four teenagers trapped in a fantasy world find themselves forced to start a war, defeat an immortal emperor, and avoid fulfilling a prophecy foretelling their deaths and inevitable corruption.

Characters:

(All character aesthetics are from Pinterest)

Chelsea Jean Welling
She's just your ordinary teenage girl with crippling anxiety
Will live or die for her friends
Could become the most powerful mage of the present age if she can only learn to control her temper
Likes to consider herself the reasonable twin
Is always adopting strays
Flirts with insanity and flees from feelings
She really doesn't want to lose

Easton Eleazar Moncrief
No one has noticed that he is just bluffing his way through life at this point
Accidentally became the king of the pirates
Dragon rider with a more important lineage than he realizes
Optimistic till the extremely bitter end
Don't let his intelligence fool you into thinking he isn't stupid
Has a hero complex and a sacrificial streak a mile wide
Doesn't know how to lose

Clint James Welling
He's the sarcastic one
Fire mage
Currently dealing with the trauma of not being as powerful as his sister
Is actually the reasonable twin even though he pretends otherwise
Is somehow always getting injured
He's actually confident in a happy ending
Doesn't like to think about losing

Barbara (Bobby) Princeton
Is allergic to the sight of blood
Is still somehow the tough friend
Clint's partner in crime
If insomnia is a power then she could rule the world
Is more of a glass is broken and we will die stabbed to death by its shards type of gal
Tries not to show just how bothered she is by all of this
Sees them all losing regardless

Now these are only what I call The Four, and they are my main characters who this whole series is about. However, in their supporting cast we also have the gruff and silent knight charged with protecting them, a werewolf ranger, a half-faerie ranger, a handsome young lord, and his sister who has the eyes of a general. New to this book we have the haughty apprentice mage sent to help them, a confused dragon rider born on the wrong side, and his fiery fiancé.

I believe that the villains also bear some mentioning for this one (I had too many villains to list in RLtG, and actually most of them are spoilers, but SoS has some notable villains). The mad mage who started this all and stranded The Four in Amar, and the immortal emperor they must dethrone who just wants to be their friend.

Setting:
(Images Via Pinteres)

Amar is a beautiful, magic filled world of many extremes. Everything is more vibrant and fuller here, the winters colder, the springs more vivacious. Blanketed in vast forestland, Amar is made up of several separate countries from scattered lord's holds in Dexton, Vinis, and Len; a democracy in Bexton; to Ione and Glanoss which are ruled by an immortal emperor. The rest of the kingdoms are ruled by a monarchy although Renlain and Westgorne are currently under the care of regents.

In this world there are dragons, faeries, werewolves, and many more fantastical creatures all of which have become corrupted by a dark magic tainting the whole world. Very few human bloodlines have been blessed with magic but despite being extremely rare there are mages who can manipulate this magic and the elements, as well as those born with the ability to see the future, or ride dragons.

There are monster hunters, and pirates (although that's more of what book two is focused on), and corrupt courtiers and kings. Book three takes place during autumn.

Amar is one of four worlds, the others being Earth, the home of the faeries, and a dark place feared by all.

Hopefully you enjoyed the aesthetics of SoS as much as I enjoyed sharing them. Next week I'm taking a break from this current series to do talk a little more about my NaNo project.
